Teri yawned and reached for her phone on the nightstand, before rolling over on the bed, double-tapping on her phone screen, and unlocking it with a four digit pin. There were over 20 notifications that came in overnight but none of those notifications was the one she wanted to see. Feeling a bit dejected, she rolled over again, returned the phone to its former spot, and blew out a huge breath of air, what is it that I’m waiting for, she wondered, certainly not him, whatever his name is, you need to get over him, Teri, there are a ton more other guys for you.
Staring at the ceiling, picturing a swinging pendulum in her mind, Teri scrunched up her face in deep concentration but after a moment, she let out an exasperated sigh, “Why is this so hard?” Suddenly, her phone pinged, causing her to sit up, toss her covers aside, and lunge for the phone, only to find the message was from her roommate, Shelley, “Hey, sleepyhead, awake yet, anyway, out doing errands, bbl.”
Half-heartedly, Teri sent her a thumb up emoji but the moment after she sent the emoji, a lightbulb suddenly went off in her head and immediately opened the Facebook app and typed in his name while praying, please universe, send me a signal, tell me whether this is a good idea or a bad idea.
Written for Six Sentence Story. The prompt is “Signal”.

Unfortunately if you wait for the signal from the world you will stay waiting. I wonder what will happen next…

On the surface it sounds like a bad idea. But we will have to see.

Uh, oh. Teri’s got it bad if she’s gone to the FB!

It’s a bad idea, most likely. We usually don’t figure it out in time, though.

Well, let’s hope she does figure it out in time.

Let this be the final e-query she sends out! Sometimes moving on is what gets ’em working…also gives perspective on what’s worth the energy?

Yeah, let’s hope for that.
