When buying a new home appliance, are you offered optional insurance cover (for additional cost) and if so do you take it?
There’s always optional insurance coverage when buying new home appliances, it’s almost like when you rent a car and the person at the car rental agency asks you if you want insurance. Though my answer at the car rental place is always no, for home appliances, I often will say yes, depending on the cost, just in case I buy a lemon or there’s missing screw in the assembly (it happens).
When purchasing something for the home, like a new TV, freezer, cooker, carpets, etc, do you pay outright or take terms?
I will pay it all up front, carefully choosing a credit card with lots of rewards and the longest time (2-3 months) before the bill comes due. Then, from the time of the purchase to the time I have to pay my credit card bill, I will divide the total in 3 or 4 payments and pay it off so I won’t have to fork over such a large sum when I have to pay the credit card bill.
I also do this with my home and car insurance, that way, I’m not burdening myself with such huge amount at once.
What is the worst purchase for the home you can remember?
The #1 worst purchase is probably the rocks for the garden. Yes, it keeps the garden a little warmer in the winter but it’s scorching in the summer. It also causes suffering to my feet and knees as I have to walk on the rocks. If I wear the wrong footwear, I can be in danger of slipping. I should’ve gone with wood chips instead, at least they don’t roll beneath your feet.
The other worst purchase is perhaps the water softener. Actually, my mom bought it and blamed me for it. Now, I can’t use indoor water to water my seedlings because of the salt content.
For your family room/lounge, do you prefer couches, easy chairs, recliners or a mixture of seating arrangements.
I would love a recliner. Right now, I either can sit in an uncomfortable rocking chair or a sofa to watch TV. Neither is a good option. The sofa’s too far from the TV and the rocking chair is too… rocking. The only good spot to watch TV is occupied by my mom’s treadmill and I’m the only one watching the TV…
