#WeekendCoffeeShare – 4th of July Weekend

Happy Saturday!

This is a 3-day long weekend for me as Independence Day falls on a Saturday this year. It brought much confusion to my brain as I kept thinking it was Saturday yesterday. I do, however, wish this long weekend will bring some rest to my weary body and mind as the weather has been causing me anxiety lately, which, in turn, caused disruptions in my sleep.

Earlier this week, I harvested the first bowl of cherry tomatoes of 2026. Though I have harvested tomatoes before this, it’s always just one or two. I also harvested a red acre cabbage, which weighed 2.5 pounds. It’s the first cabbage ever that weighed as much as this. The cabbage is currently sitting in the fridge but the tomatoes are gone and they were delicious. I found these have such a depth of flavor that they keep me wanting more.

The garden is still in transition, with the newly sowed seeds beginning to germinate. However, because of my trip to China in September, I will need to do an early transition to fall and winter crops in early to mid August. It’s a good thing I started the cool weather crops in June because they tend to grow very slowly during the summer months despite giving them shade. I think they just don’t like the heat and the long days.

Since the US is celebrating its 250th birthday this year, I decided to do a special jigsaw puzzle to honor the occasion. I found this to be quite easy to complete. The hardest part is the blue background. I left those blue pieces to complete in the end. This took me a little over a half-day to complete, it was fun while it lasted.

That’s all for me this week. Thank you to Natalie for hosting Weekend Coffee Share each weekend and I hope you have a wonderful week ahead.

  1. Happy July 4th! I like your puzzle – good picture to work and you finished it – yay! … Neat cabbage, and wish I had some home grown tomatoes, too! 🙂
