When I saw this variety of zinnia in the seed catalog, I knew I must have it. I love flowers with this kind of random color splatter pattern. It showcases what an artist plants can be.
This is called peppermint stick zinnia. The color is supposed to represent that of a candy cane.
Unfortunately, the flower world has not been kind to me this year. I started a bunch of flowers from seed early this year but for some reason, the moment I planted them in the ground, they either got gnawed on and skeletonized by bugs or they wilted and died. Of the 12 zinnias I grew from seed, only 2 remains. I guess growing flowers are not as easy as growing vegetables.
The funny thing is most people would say the opposite. I don’t know why. Perhaps, there’s a level of diligent one must have when it comes to growing flowers? Oh well, there’s always next year.
