Wow, so it’s been almost a month since I shared my piano progress. It’s still going well. I managed to learn two new songs this month and I’m in the process of learning The Entertainer at the moment.
It’s harder than it looks. I can play the first four measures and that’s it. I feel very frustrated sometimes because my hands are not as coordinated as I like them to be. It sometimes feels like I’m leading a marching band and directing traffic at the same time. I can make my right hand play the notes but I can’t get my left hand to do the same thing at the same time. Clearly, my brain isn’t built for multi-tasking.
In the meantime, I’m trying to perfect “None but the Lonely Heart” by Tchaikovsky. Once again, I keep hitting the wrong notes. I like this song because it’s very easy to get into the emotion of the piece and getting into the emotion has been the most difficult thing for me. That’s why my music pieces sound like they’re played by a robot because I’m trying so hard to get the notes right that I neglected the emotion of the song.
So The Entertainer and practice my emotions while playing the songs. We’ll see how I do in the next Piano Progress. Now, may I present to you my latest recording: Amazing Grace.
Just beautiful Yinglan!

I don’t know that I have a right to feel proud of you, Yinglan, but I do. I’m so glad that you have a renewed interest in your piano. You are far to good to drop it.
