Views out of an Airplane

When I saw this week’s challenge, my mind immediately went blank. Windows? What kind of topic is that? How am I supposed to come up with pictures that involve windows? Then as I checked out fellow bloggers’ postings, an idea hit me. Of course, why didn’t I think of that.

Washington State Mountains

I don’t ride airplanes often even though I love to travel. It’s not that riding in an airplane isn’t exciting. I mean who doesn’t like to look down on mountains and cities instead of looking up for a change? It’s just a hassle to go through the line for security check at the airport and the weight limitation. Oh my goodness, the weight limitation! With a car, as long as it fits, it’s okay but not an airplane.

I remember when I went to China earlier this year, I was constantly checking to make sure my luggage didn’t go over the weight limit of 50 pounds (23 kg). Then when I got to the airport that morning, carrying my remaining luggage in a large heavy backpack on my back, I had to take off my jacket, my shoes, and my laptop out of my backpack and then put everything back to its place after the security check. And it just so happens I was late to the boarding gates.

Sunset Over the Pacific

Before this year, I only visited China once after I moved to the U.S. and that was more than a decade ago. I was so excited that time, I got to see my relatives after four years. We didn’t have Skype or WeChat or Facebook back then. So the only way to keep up with them was through an old-fashion analog telephone.

Anyway, on the day we went to the airport, I wore a jacket with a metal zipper. That set off a ton of alarms and I had to get an uncomfortable pat down plus a sweep of metal detector before I was allowed to go. I was terrified, afraid they might put me in jail for wearing a jacket with a metal zipper. I was fourteen, I didn’t know as much I do now to wear non-metal clothes. That includes wearing elastic pants that involves no belt.

Somewhere over the Pacific

As much as I hate going to the airport though, I have to admit that flying is pretty cool and the views from the airplane window are quite spectacular.
