Good Sunday morning and thank you for joining me in this Mid-April edition of #WeekendCoffeeShare. Let’s get out of my house and go somewhere.
Where?
There are plenty of places to go – Starbucks, Beans & Brew (a coffeeshop), a diner…
So why do I want to get out of the house?
My aunt’s cooking lunch for my cousin, that’s why. It usually takes my aunt about 90 minutes to prepare a meal and she’s been doing that for the past hour and I’m hungry and can’t even use the stove to whip myself some eggs. So are we going or what?
If we were having coffee, I would tell you it’s been crazy once again. I know, I know. I know what I said last time about things finally getting back to “normal” but just as I was hoping, things went the opposite way just like always. They’re still living like they do in China – three meals a day with a humongous amount of rice, fatty pork, and potatoes with a ridiculously long afternoon nap. I still wonder how they survive a 8-hour workday without a “nap”.
Since they’ve come, I have grown tired of lots of foods I used to love – pork (in general), meat (in general except fish), potatoes (except mashed), rice (oh my gosh, no more!), and chicken. The food I miss the most is eggs. I love eggs, they are healthy and full of protein. And if I see one more plate of pork chops, I might have a breakdown.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you spring is coming very very very slow this year. It’s April and there are still snow and the rain has been incredible this year, day after day of rain. And it seems like the more I want to go out, the cloudier the sky gets and the chance for rain increases. I’m like, “Come on, I just want to try out my new lens and lens filter. Is that too much to ask?”
Obviously, it is.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you I had a few hours alone yesterday and I spent it in a thrift store shopping. I did the same thing last year, buy some books to read for the next year or so. This time, I walked away with 18 books for $13.75. I found a few classics like Bram stoker’s Dracula and Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck (which I’ve read in high school). I also found a few James Patterson books, an author I’ve grown to enjoy. I can’t wait to dig into those books.
If we were having coffee, I would tell you I got a new 35 mm manual lens this week. I’ve tested out and found it’s great taking close up photos because of the large aperture of 1.7, but it’s not so great taking landscapes. Let’s just say, if I want to play it safe, I better stick to my kit lens. Here are some of the photos from that lens.
Finally, if we were having coffee, I would thank you for joining me today and hope to see you back here in a week.
Great photos. Enjoy your new lens.

Great photos YingLan.
It’s too bad, your family is not interested in trying other foods and are so stuck on the food they grew up with. If I recall, you are in the Toronto area and there are so many great options for other things to try and fall in love with. Some people just don’t value such things I guess. Trying other foods is part of the fun of being some place new.
Blessings – now let’s go grab a bite of anything that appeals to you – did I see an interesting Indian place just a few blocks away?

It’s certainly too bad because there are a lot of diversity here and a lot of them are good food. Thank you for dropping by. 🙂

oh wait – I think I’m wrong. You live near Salt Lake City. No matter – there are great Indian places there too.

I’m about 30 miles north of Salt Lake City but I’m afraid I don’t know of any Indian place nearby. I do know of a great place for Japanese Ramen and a great diner to have breakfast. I love a traditional breakfast with eggs, sausages, pancakes, and French toast. Mmm…

Ah – that this point, I highly recommend a family favorite recipe. You can find it detailed in a short story I wrote about our kids.

The quick version is how I tried to get more veggie’s into our toddlers and ended up spiking the pancake batter with carrot puree and corn meal. =Beyond yummmmmmm!
Blessings!

I love the new photos! I’m still experimenting with a new 16-35mm lens I got a couple months ago. It’s a lot of fun! I’m thinking that I’m going to use my new lens for wide angle landscape photos, and macros. It has two manual settings, one for distance, and one for focus. I love photography, it never gets boring, and there’s always more to learn. Looking forward to see more photos from you! Enjoy your new books 🙂

I use my kit lens more than anything, I must confess! But it’s always fun to try out others. Hope things calm down for you soon..

The kit lens is quite handy when it comes to taking snapshots, I’ve come to find out but when it comes to artistic shots like long exposures, it’s a hit or miss.
