#WeekendCoffeeShare: The Earth Still Spins

Good morning and thank you for joining me for yet another #WeekendCoffeeShare. Don’t just stand there, come on in.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you we have made it through another uncertain week. I remember at the beginning of week, Mom was like Chicken Little, “The world is falling. The world is falling.” She was of course referring to Inauguration Day, which I did not watch. I have never watched an Presidential Inauguration ever.

Is that bad? Oh well, I’ll just add that to a list of stuff I need to do in the future.

Mom seems to have this notion that the world as we know it would end on that day. Guess what? The world did not end. The Earth still spins. There are still night and day. I’m still working my butt off 9, 10 hours a day. The USAF planes are still buzzing over my roof like enormous flies, if not more annoying than ever.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I have to give a speech at my Toastmaster today. Please wish me luck. I’m crossing my fingers I will remember to add a little bit of vocal variety in my speech and that my heart won’t pound so loud in my ears that I can’t concentrate, and that I won’t give away that I will yet again be reading from my computer screen because I couldn’t find the time to memorize a 850-word essay.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you my speech is about my experience as a protégé. I wish I can write about something else but that’s the prompt given by the project. I’ve been struggling to write this speech all week because each time I was about to get off work to work on my speech, an email would appear in my inbox, sending me right back to work again. I should learn to ignore those email until the next day.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I have began selling a manual fixed prime lens on the local classified two weeks ago and it looks like I might finally have a buyer. I sure hope it’s not a scam.

The lens is for my old camera which is next to unusable because of a moldy sensor. I tried both cleaning it myself and taking it to a professional, the photos still were so full of black spots that even with lightroom and photoshop, I couldn’t get rid of it.

If I can sell this lens, I will have to sell the telephoto lens next since I have no use for an E-mount lens when my current camera is a F-mount.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I will definitely have a busy week at work next week since I feel like I was so busy this week that I haven’t really done much of the things I want to do. I just hope I will remember to practice my breathing as my nutritionist suggested before hyperventilation takes place.

If we were having coffee, I would thank you for joining me and hoping to return next week.

  1. Your Mom sounds so funny, but I’m afraid she was serious. I’m so happy though that the inauguration went relatively uneventfully. I mean, I was totally expecting riots.

Here’s hoping you’ll sell the lens.

    1. I’m afraid she’s serious too but I’m going to take this one day at a time and hopefully, she doesn’t do anything dumb or scary. I am also glad things went all right. No state succession. Nothing fell apart.
      Thank you for dropping by.

  2. Hi YingLan. I’ve done some speech coaching over the years because I learned so much as an instructor over the years that I found I could be helpful to my kids and their speech and debate team. I won’t dive into all that because toastmasters does such a great job that you doubtless don’t need me pointing things out from my distance. But can I say that you have such insight and a strong mind that you have what it takes to be a great public speaker. What many people lack, as I’ll bet you already know, is simply the confidence that comes with experience, getting comfortable with doing it. Please report back how it goes. I’m anxious to applaud your success.

    1. Hi Gary, I think for the most part, I am a storyteller and I love to tell a great story. But a public speaker? I don’t think I can see that in myself because doesn’t a great public speaker entails the person be a good leader too? The speech went well. I still had to read from my tablet though nobody could tell which I think it’s a good thing? I wouldn’t call it my best work though but I think I’m getting there.

    1. Thank you. I sure did have a chance to play with my new lens this week. The new lens takes beautiful macros, even better than with filters. 🙂 Thank you for dropping by and have a great week ahead.

    1. I’m a billing agent/accountant. I don’t know why I joined a public speaking club other than I got dragged into it by my mom but I’m finding I enjoy telling a great story. It is hard to give a talk about an unfamiliar topic but I think once I come up with a great story, that’s all it matters. Thank you for dropping by.

  3. Oops, I was rushing to get through a few more reads and back to my site to respond to comments before 5:00 p.m. I wanted to say though that I did watch the inauguration, part of it anyway. I generally try to watch the swearing in, regardless of any personal feeling about the new leaders.. But this year, we were certainly forewarned to expect trouble and for many t hat meant holding one’s breath.

      1. OKay, so you almost have to hear the Cowardly Lion in this, but I was praying, (really) but over and over, “Please don’t let anything bad happen, please don’t let anything bad happen, Please…”

  4. I don’t watch inauguration but I did run into a speech by a young poet and felt a touch envy that imagine that having the country and world’s attention like that for a heart beat..

I gather your speech went OK too..

  5. You sound like you could use a vacation or at the very least, a few days off.

And you can always watch the inauguration online, if you want. I enjoyed it. Things are still uncertain out here but I’m just taking it day-by-day. What else can you do?

    1. I can always use a vacation specifically time alone. I know the inauguration was re-broadcasted on C-SPAN or something and it’s always on Youtube but I don’t know if I have the patience unless I can speed it up like when I listen to audiobooks or podcasts at 1.25 or 1.3 times the speed.
I agree absolutely. I think the best anyone can do right now is to take it day-by-day.
