Ladies and gentlemen, I am a bookworm. (audience laughs) After digesting hundreds if not thousands of book, do you know what I think is the worst possible story ending?
CLIFFHANGERS!
I’ll give you an example.
The first and last thing she saw that day was the man who brought her up all these years, dragging her by her feet through the forest back to the little shack he’d built. She should’ve known better than to escape. There’s no escape, she thought grimly, he got traps set up everywhere.
(silences)
See what did I tell you? Cliffhangers are the worst!

But they keep your interest… which is something I enjoy.

Yes they are! The worst part is that our human minds tend to fill-in-the-blanks most often with worst case scenarios which are hard to resolve.

I have a strange love-hate relationship with cliffhangers but from a writer’s POV, they are so fun to write. 😀

NIce one! However, I think it depends on how good the cliffhanger is and if there is more to come. If there’s never anymore a cliffhanger is awful!

For sure. A cliffhanger only works if the story continues.

It’s almost worse reading a book that ends in a cliffhanger (if the next one isn’t out), than not reading it at all.
