Does what you read influence or inspire what you write?

Absolutely!

I often get ideas whenever I read a novel, listen to an audio book or just simply by reading other blogs. Someone once told me, “The more you read, the more you can write.” There must be some truth behind this.

One of my favorite kind of write prompt is photo prompt – write a short story based on a photo. When I look at a photo, it would sometimes remind me of something I recently read such as a plot from a novel. If nothing jogs my inspiration, I would find myself reading other responses to the prompt, seeking inspiration.
