“He tried to fly before he could ride a bike.” The homeless old man said.
“I saw him that day. ‘I am gonna fly today.’ He announced, pushed his bike into the building, rode the elevator, I guess to the roof, and sailed off the roof with his bike.”
“So that’s how his bike got stuck?” The boy asked. “What happened to him?”
The old man shook his head and chuckled, “I wouldn’t know. I didn’t see him.”
“Oh,” the boy said and walked away, disappointed.
The old man watched. He couldn’t tell the boy that foolish youngster was him.

Just think how different this story would be if he’d told the kid. Beginning of an interesting friendship for sure. But how often we miss those chances trying to protect ourselves from looking foolish.

I’d imagine this story would have a very different ending and yes, perhaps the start of a friendship.
