Friday Fictioneers: The Customer

“Um, Miss?”

“Yeah,” I say as I’m closing down my food truck. I have just sold all the food for the day and ready to head home.

“Are you closed?”

“Yeah,” I answered. “Can I help you?”

He shakes his cup of ice, “I was hoping you’d refill this?”

Puzzled, I say, “Sorry, I don’t do refills.” If I did, I’d be broke.

“Oh,” sounding disappointed, he returns to the picnic table beneath a tree, on it are two other cup and a ketchup bottle.

Feeling resigned, I grab a backup bottle of cola and join him at the table.

  1. What would we do without the “refillable” drink???? For many small businesses it is a huge burden, and yet, it does breed customer loyalty… and that breeds regulars, and regulars are what pays the everyday expenses. Good take on the prompt this week.

    1. Thank you. I have visited some restaurants, especially food trucks which don’t offer free refills. Personally, I’m fine with it but obviously, it’s important to some and you’re right, it earns customer loyalty.
