This week on Blogging Insights, Tanya from Salted Caramel provided the following quote by Ron Dawson:
“The first thing you need to decide when you build your blog is what you want to accomplish with it, and what it can do if successful.”
I will admit, I actually thought about it – what I want to accomplish – when I created this blog almost 9 years ago. At the very beginning, I want to create a proofreading and editing business with this blog because that’s what I thought a blog did back in the day. I didn’t know there were communities of like-minded individuals and I certainly did not know there are challenges and prompts.
The proofreading business never took off because I couldn’t get anyone to visit the site. I was also a newbie at blogging. I didn’t know what to write and I didn’t understand tagging but let’s be honest, I still don’t. So my first few blog posts weren’t even listed in the reader because I didn’t follow the 15-tag rule where if a post contains 15+ tags, it won’t be listed on the WP reader. I don’t know if this rule still exist but I don’t want to find out.
Even now, I wouldn’t call this blog a success and I think part of it is because I don’t have time to maintain the website aspect of it. I have given up on getting the blog to become a business especially now with such a busy life. I am glad, though, I get to be a part of a community and I am thankful I get to express my inner thoughts.
When I launched my blog I wanted to earn some money from it too, at least enough to pay for my WordPress personal plan.
Sadly that did not materialise.
