Share Your World – Week of January 31, 2022

What is one topic you love to talk about?

As much as I hate to admit, I love to talk about myself but I try not to because I happen to live with a person (cough…my mom) that hates it when I talk about me while all she does is talk about herself. So now, we barely talk and if we do talk, we either discuss how the stock market is currently either going to hell or taking us on a roller coaster or we discuss food.

Ask the wonder question . ‘But so, suppose there was a magical wizard standing right in front of you and you could turn your life into anything you wanted, what would you do? ‘  For example: What, who, where, why? ‘  (Short explanation:  Suspend disbelief and suppose for a moment that you COULD turn your life into anything you wanted it to be.  Answer any or all of those “W” codicils as you wish)

I have been thinking about how to answer this question ever since I saw it. I think I would ask the mighty magical wizard to free me from my financial debts with my mother and aunt, get me a truck and a trailer or a RV and get me the hell out of here, away from my mom’s constant blasting of YouTube videos even during work hours, and away from the needy uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Could you adjust to life without any internet?

Contrary to what Melanie mentioned in the question, I am a millennial who knows the “old” way of living and it was quite nice. The internet didn’t actually come into my life until around 2002, when I was around 11. Before then, I lived under a rock, sort of. The only thing I knew how to do with a computer back then was play solitaire but I wasn’t good at it.

I think I will survive without the internet. I’m a highly adaptable individual. My internet has gone a few times in the last couple of weeks. I was calm but mom freaked, banging on my bedroom door at 4:30 am complaining of no internet. “Fix it,” she had shrieked like an addict suffering from withdrawal. Meanwhile, all I wanted was drift back to sleep.

What do you think is unique about the human ‘animal’ (homo sapien)?

I sometimes feel we are just like all other animals, we have our ways of communicating, we are adaptable to the environment, we reproduce, we feed off the food chain in order to survive… I think what makes us unique is we have an evolving brain.

  1. Thanks Yinglan for Sharing Your World. I do need to amend that millennials remark, because it’s a generalization. There are loads of young people who probably do know ‘life without wi fi” and would get on just fine. 🙂 In America there are certain religious communities who live without electricity, don’t drive cars. but still use horse and buggy and wagon, do most things by hand. It looks like a really nice life (from outside) but I bet it’s a LOT of hard work. And those folks are fairly rigid (some of them) about sticking to the word of the Bible as written. I think you do so well with your situation. I had one of those ‘screamers in the middle of the night’ in my mother too. She also muttered under her breath, talking all night. This situation will pass eventually. I know that’s not really comforting nor helpful right now too. But remember when it gets really bad there that there are people on-line who really admire you and think you’re awesome! Are amazed at your strength of character and flexibility. I’m glad I read your blog and that you can share some of the burden here at least! Take care this week!

    1. We were kinda talking about the same thing at work yesterday because we now have to do second authentication from our phones to log into the program to begin working. My co-worker was complaining that the app wasn’t working for her. Another co-worker asked, “what if you don’t have a smart phone?” My supervisor replied, “then you’re not living in the present.”
That’s when I pointed out, “Well, thank goodness they didn’t enact this 3 years ago. I didn’t have a phone back then.” Everyone laughed.
I’m probably the last millennial to own a smart phone. 😀 So yeah, I think I am going to do okay in a internet-less world.
