For the longest time, Sam wanted to be alone. “I don’t ever get lonely,” he’d say with pride to whoever asked. Lately though, Sam’s been feeling…lonely. He’s been craving…companionship.
“Maybe it’s the pandemic…” he sighed he strolled by his neighborhood’s second-hand store one day. The lockdowns, the zoom meetings with his doctors… He’s been eager to talk to somebody, anybody face-to-face, like old times.
Glancing at the mannequin bride by the store window, he half-wished that thing was alive. A moment passed and he chuckled. That’s baloney talk, Sam, but then another voice chimed in, but Ida-the clerk is single.

Probably not enough to build a relationship on, but it may be a start

Definitely a start.

Yep, I think Ida may be better company than the mannequin could help with his jigsaw. Great sentiments in the story.

I imagined Ida to be around his age so maybe a romance will blossom.

Everyone, no matter what age, needs companionship.
I guess he finally reached that stage. Bittersweet …
