US-Canada Trip 2022 Day 11

For reference, day 11 is referring to September 30 2022.

I don’t know whether I’m getting better or worse. My cough has somewhat subsided in the daytime but it’s been mostly uncontrollable at night. Whether that’s due to the motel’s subpar cleanliness, it’s still up for debate.

We started the day at Gettysburg National Military Park. Its museum is absolutely amazing and fascinating. I can spend the day in there browsing exhibits, watching clips, and listening to speeches but mom said we must go.

Civil War is absolutely an interesting time in US history. There are so much detail that history classes don’t talk about due to being short on time, that you must go find out on your own. It’s one of my favorite time period because of all the first person accounts that came out from this war. There’s also the fact that there are so much that hasn’t been told from other perspectives.

Mom skipped most of the exhibits as it’s dealing with her least favorite subject – slavery. She thinks “thou doth protest too much” as she told her friend the other night about how the U.S over-emphasizes on the history of slavery.

After Gettysburg, we decided to visit the Pennsylvania State Capitol in Harrisburg because, well, after all, we came this far. The Capitol building is a stunning piece of art. It is so different from any other Capitol I’ve visited. The interior artwork was influenced by Renaissance with each room further influenced by different European cultures. After visiting the Capitol, I now understand why Teddy Roosevelt called this the “handsomest building”.

The views outside wasn’t all that bad either with the Capitol overlooking the Susquehanna River. It was too bad the sky was so gloomy and cloudy, otherwise, I feel like the picture might had come out in better colors.
