Share Your World – Week of December 19, 2022

How organized are you in either your working or private life?

I am a very odd person at times because I am not very organized at all. You can come into my room and would say, “Oh, you’re very organized. What are you talking about?” I like you to look in the drawers and my closet. Everything is basically thrown inside.

But then, once in a while, I would get these little spurt of energy where I would go around my room and stack everything neatly, sort and organize everything in my chest of drawers, and toss out empty boxes in my closet as if all of my annoying sentimentally is suddenly thrown out the window.

My work life is the opposite because my work life mostly lives in a computer, so I’m very organized when it comes to that. I’m very good at organizing files on a computer. I think because it doesn’t take a lot of physical energy and it’s kind of fun.

Do you remember family birthdays or anniversaries and send cards?

No, I don’t send cards. It actually took me about 2 years to learn the family’s birthdays and it was essential I learn them as I’m the one who typically do their taxes, enroll in their health insurance, call their HR department and who knows what else pretending to be them. Mom still can’t remember their birthdays, as she would often blame her forgetfulness on aging. So it’s all on me.

I rarely care about family birthdays because no one bothered to remember my birthday. Unless mom nags me to send a birthday message, it would just be another day for me.

If you see something in a shop that is an extravagance but you can afford it, do you buy it?

For me, something of extravagance means fancy electronics or kitchen appliance or camera gear. I won’t usually buy it right away. I will usually go online and compare prices first and if the price I’m looking at in the shop is the lowest, then I might buy it (50% chance). I might wait though because I know if it’s something extravagant, there’s big fat chance mom won’t approve.

Are you looking forward to the New Year?

Yes, of course because it will mean the days are going to longer again, which means gardening season is starting again, and that means no more winter blues. Mostly, I’m looking forward to warmer weather.

  1. I also do a lot of comparison shopping. I get so aggravated when I buy something then see it somewhere else for significantly less. That happens a lot with the miniatures I make. Different companies have different pricing. You can tell that some people just buy stuff to jack up the prices to resell.
