#SundayStills: I would #Rather be…

Teri from Second Wind Leisure Perspective presents a very interesting theme for this week’s #SundayStills – I’d #Rather Be…

We had a false spring over the weekend. The temperature was warm – around 50-degree-Fahrenheit (10-degrees-celsius)- so warm I shed my jacket and was walking around in sweatpants and a short-sleeve t-shirt. It was just a rehearsal, I know, because it’s going to rain and get cold again today – Spring Equinox.

Despite being a rehearsal for the warm days ahead, I took the opportunity to do some cleanup in the garden even though my gut was telling me to wait for much warmer days than 50-degrees but for once, I’d rather not be a procrastinator and get it done before planting bogs me down.

I ended up spending Saturday afternoon raking all the leaves and deposited those into my compost bins and expanding the garden by laying these bricks on the other side of the house. It looks pretty good as if it was done by a professional, if I do say so myself.

Still I couldn’t say I wasn’t an eager beaver when it came to transplanting my first seedling of the season. Although my intuition told me to wait, my other senses told me it was time; the broccoli seedlings desperately needed to go in the ground. So I turned the half-thawed soil in the new raised bed on Sunday and did an inaugural planting.

After planting the broccoli and broccoli rabe seedlings, I thought about not covering it with frost protection. After all, both are cold-hardy vegetables but I think I would rather be safe than sad to find out my seedlings died in a freeze.
