Note: this is 100% fiction.
Growing up, I was always taught paper maps are the most reliable thing whenever I travel. I’ve never had any trouble reading paper maps until now as I struggle to even figure out where I am.
Where am I? This station isn’t even on this map.
I blow a breath of air as I hear the wheeze of an incoming train coming to a stop. A man’s voice comes in from the station intercom. I have no idea what he just said. As beautiful as the language, I can understand none of it.
“Pardon me,” an accented voice startles me out of my concentration, “are you lost?”
“Yes,” I admit, a little too quick for my liking. “I’m trying to get here,” I point to a spot on the map, “but I don’t know where I am.” I let out a nervous laugh. He does the same.
“Oh, you’re in luck. I’m heading to the same place. Traveling?” I nod, feeling very much relieved. Yes, I guess I am in luck.

I guess you’re drawing from your experience of recent travels. There’s no worse feeling than to be lost in an unfamiliar place. Thanks Yinglan for joining in.

Actually, I drew this from my travel from probably before I had a smart phone with GPS but then, it was never in a foreign country. So it was part imagination, part real life prior to smart phone. 😀

With a smart phone, it’s hard to get lost, provided you know how to use the gps or the maps.

Well, I wouldn’t be so sure about that since I have gotten lost a time or two while using Google maps.
