Nature Photo Challenge #25 – Seedheads

I agree, seedheads aren’t always the prettiest thing in the world to photograph.

Like with the sunflower, the head becomes large, the petals fall off, and laden with seeds, the head is no longer holding high to greet the sun when it rises in the morning. Instead, it stares at the ground all day long.

The other photo is the start of a seedhead – a sprouting broccoli has gone to seed due to temperature inconsistency. I’ve grown them 2 years in a row and though, I haven’t had success with them, I keep growing them for some reason. I’m just not the person to give up. These are tender and delicious though when they are not flowering like crazy.

Finally, here are some wild flower seedheads. Is it strange that I find wildflowers fascinating? They have to be the most resilient plants to not only battle the weather elements but to find water to survive.

  2. Who are you calling a seedhead? 🙂 I don’t know if you’ve tried this. We have a couple of gardens — you tend to do that when you own a farm — My wife loves wild flowers so I decided to surprise her. I tossed two packets of English wildflowers on a piece of grass we call a lawn. I did nothing to them. Oh my, did they grow.
