Note: this is 100% fiction.
I watched as they made their way to the airport gate. She wore a bright yellow sundress, the kind that can blind if you stared at it too long. He was several paces behind her, in jeans, a dress shirt, and a scarf. His face showed no emotion, and he sure as hell didn’t belong in that attire, especially not with the backpack on his back and the luggage on his shoulder. I wondered how he landed in that position.
Oh my gosh, who does she think he is? I bolted from my seat the moment she sat down. I’m gonna go over there and…
Just then, a voice interrupted my train of thought. “What are you doing?” My husband was gazing at me with raised eyebrows. “You’re thinking of going over there and giving them a piece of your mind, aren’t you?”
“Huh?”
“You forget what I do for a living. I’m an observer, remember? Besides, your thoughts are so loud that I could swear I heard you shout them just now. Now, please, mind your own business.”
Reluctantly, I sat back down but my attention was still trained on them, sitting at the gate across from mine. Well, she sat, he stood with his head bowed. Something told me their relationship was contractual.

Very interesting story Yinglan. Now we’ll wonder what the true nature of their relationship is? Thanks for joining in.
