Does it matters to you what others think about you or your actions?
Do you give importance to the opinion of others around you regarding your appearance, or actions/ decisions?
I, unfortunately, have this incessantly annoying habit of trying to please the people around me and seldom trying to please myself. Therefore, it causes me to care what others think of my appearance and actions more times than I’ve realized.
Don’t get me wrong. Just because I care doesn’t mean I take others’ opinion to heart and try to change who I am. That remains a “it depends” situation.
When I visited China in 2017 and saw my paternal family for the first time since immigrated to the US 16 years prior. Do you know what the first words my dad’s sister said to me? She pointed at my nose and said I should get a nose job. Seriously? We haven’t talked or seen each other for 16 years and those are the first words you say to me?
Listen, yes, I am in the habit of pleasing people but I was not about to go through a painful nose operation to satisfy my aunt because she thought my nose looked flat.
I will admit, I used to care a lot more when I was younger but it seems as though in recent years, as I’ve gotten older, I’ve grown somewhat a little impervious to others’ opinion, especially when coming from though closest to me.
Perhaps, it’s because I’ve been hurt by them more times than I can count? Perhaps, I’m just tired of caring what others think of me? Perhaps, it’s another part of my unconscious self-improvement project – learning to please myself for a change? Or perhaps, it’s true what people say, we get wiser as we get older.

We do get wiser as we grow older. And it is important to please yourself first before you think about others.
