“Come on, Teddy,” Maggie said in a small voice as she dragged her stuffed bear down the front porch steps toward the dirt path between the house and the road, “let’s go for a walk.”
After 100 yards or so, she located her favorite tree, plopped Teddy down onto the ground and sat down next to it. She sighed. “Mommy and daddy are at it again.” She looked back at the house and could imagine slamming doors and shuffling furniture.
She sighed again, “You don’t have to worry about this happening to us, Teddy, because I would never do this to you. I promise.”
