Christmas Road Trip Day 3

This is the day when I would part ways with my aunt and uncle on this trip as they would be heading home while I continued my journey.

The day actually started out later than I had originally planned but then everything went skewed when my aunt and uncle decided to tag along. I was at breakfast at around 7 AM. My aunt told me she would be right down. I even told her where the breakfast bar was. I waited and waited and it turned out they got lost and was looking for me in the parking lot. Sometimes, I feel like I must hold their hands and guide them as if they were a child.

By the time we reached the Horseshoe Bend, the sun was already up and it was casting a large shadow, making photography difficult.

I didn’t plan on staying there for very long. After all, I had a 2+ hour drive to my next destination and my aunt and uncle had an 8-hour drive home. But then, I was supposed to see this the day before, as I said, everything is skewed with them tagging along because they had to eat, sleep, etc.

My aunt wouldn’t leave. She wanted to wait until the sun was a bit higher to lift the giant shadow. Meanwhile, my uncle had started grumbling and complaining as he always did. Both of them were annoying and it makes me wonder why I ever tell anyone where I go in the first place.

It was nearly 11 AM by the time I got back in the car, heading for Grand Canyon. I wouldn’t get there until after 1 PM. At the park sign, I sat in the car and waited for the 4 families ahead of me to finish taking family and individual pictures of the sign. It was a long wait as they all wanted to be photographed in different positions. Some even climbed on top of the sign.

At last, it was my turn. I ran out of the car and toward the sign before anyone else could get to it and snapped a few photographs. Finally, moving on.

I spent the remainder of the afternoon on the east side of the South Rim of Grand Canyon before heading for the visitor center to ask for information about the next day, which was Christmas. While there, I watched a movie introducing how the canyon was formed millions of years ago. After watching the movie, it made me appreciate this magnificent landscape even more.

    1. Actually, this time, she didn’t because she ex-communicated with those two. My aunt found out my mom’s leaving town because her son was leaving town. So she asked me. I didn’t tell anyone exactly where I was going except on a trip. They just invited themselves along.

      1. Good.

Now about something you probably know but was reinforced on your trip is late afternoon or early morning light. If I were photographing landscapes I’d be out and about before dawn. You have sight probably so as soon as you can see, and be in place by dawn. I use the middle of the day for scouting, reading or sleeping and then head to my location well before dusk. My wife who likes transitions and is a musician, regularly gets up so she can photograph with her iPhone at daybreak. And, she gets me up too under the guise of it’ll be worth it.

      2. Well then, I should probably practice driving in darkness. I’ve been struggling to drive in darkness because of my astigmatism. I didn’t get my new glasses until I got back from the trip. Still, I haven’t tested them yet. They are supposed to be help me see better especially with nighttime driving. With astigmatism, even the smallest light blinds me. So, next time, hopefully.
