Please note: this is 100% fiction!
“Daddy, are we home yet?” My little girl, Emma, murmured sleepily on my shoulder as I walked down the ghostly street.
This was a bustling metropolis not long ago but once an experiment to resurrect the dinosaur went awry followed by the accident detonation of an EMP (electro-magnetic pulse), cities around the world quickly became ghost towns with abandoned vehicles littering the streets and shops looted of its merchandises as people scrambled to seek new lives underground.
I lightly patted my daughter’s hand, “We’re almost there.”
My wife and I got separated during the mass exodus and I have been searching for her ever since. I knew she had survived but didn’t know which underground colony she ended with until some time ago when I received word from my underground colony representative. Communication channels in the underground colonies were still a little fuzzy, mostly dependent on ham radios and he-said-she-said to relay any relevant information. I’m not even sure if the information about my wife is accurate but I have to try. After all, we are stronger as a family.
We have been traveling by day and hiding underground in temporary shelters at night. Dinosaurs seem to be semi-nocturnal. They seem to like roaming when the sun’s low in the sky, when night is approaching. No one knows where they go during the daylight hours but they’re nowhere to be seen.
Lifting open the manhole cover, I climbed down the ladder and maneuvered the maze-like tunnel. This was a sewage tunnel long ago but it’s since been blocked off.
“Stop where you are.” A familiar voice demanded and at once, I knew I was home.
“Emily.” I said softly.
“Sam.”

What an interesting story you’ve written Yinglan. I could visualize it in my mind as a movie. Thanks for joining in.

Thank you. I was watching the same movie in my head as I wrote the story. 😀
