Friday Fictioneers: Grandmother’s Farmhouse

Please Note: 100% fiction!

Turning the key, I walk into my grandmother’s 19th-Century farmhouse for the first time in over 30 years. The last time anyone’s been inside was over 3 months ago, right before the ambulance came and hauled my grandmother to the hospital after her heart attack. She survived the heart attack only to be killed by the flu a month later.

Two days ago, when Mr. Brooke read Grandmother’s Will, I discovered she left me the house.

I flick the switch, the light flickers a few times before it stays lit, I look around and blow out a breath. “Oh brother.”
