Searching through my cloud drive, this is the earliest picture of me and a computer I can find. Of course, I can’t remember this at all, probably because I was not even 3-year-old at the time. If you’re talking about the very first computer I’ve ever seen, it will be this computer, circa 1994.
For years though, I didn’t use a computer, didn’t need it, didn’t know what it does, nor did I care. Eventually though, after coming to the U.S., I had to learn the computer like basic word processing, online researching, etc.
The first laptop I ever own was in 2010 when I needed a laptop for college. The laptop I was using was failing due to insufficient storage. This laptop got me through 6 years of college and then after I graduated, I had enough money saved to buy a new laptop. This next laptop also served me well, that is until it decided to run at a snail pace when I try to edit my photos in Lightroom but then, this machine has already given me 6 years of life. Time for another upgrade.
Thankfully, after my last supervisor quit, the company finally approved a work laptop for me. So I no longer need to use my personal laptop for work. Apparently, my former supervisor had told the IT department my co-workers and I don’t need a laptop, which is ridiculous.
These days, I use a company-issued laptop for work while I have a personal laptop I bought almost 2 years ago for blogging, writing, and editing photos. Hopefully, with sparse usage, my laptop will last a few more years.

Yinglan, I wish I didn’t need one. I purchased my fifth, I believe, laptop in November 2022. In December 2023, I opened the lid and the left side of the framework around the screen tore away from the screen, which is ridiculous. I barely got a year out of it and they only issue a one year warranty these days, unless you want to purchase an extended warranty. The one I had before this new one was refurbished, which I bought because I was attempting to finish my children’s manuscript for editing when I died but I had it for about five years, so go figure.

I wish I don’t need one, too, but I do prefer to view webpages on a bigger screen than my phone and a keyboard makes typing much easier.
I would never buy refurbished electronics or from anyplace but Costco. They have the best return policies and extend warranties when it comes to electronics.

I said that too but I purchased it from the company that attempted to repair it. Once we found that it could not be repaired and I was in a time crunch, I had my data transferred to a refurbished business laptop they had available. It worked out great, rhe cost was reasonable and I’ve used their services several times since then. But it worked out for me because it’s very time-consuming when I buy electronics because I go back and forth for quite a while before I finally make up my mind and choose something.

That’s great that it worked out. I’m the same way when I buy anything. I like to compare and weigh my options.
