Good morning! Welcome, would you like to come in? Or not, it’s a beautiful day for an outdoor chat.
Here, we can sit on the stoop with our drinks but you will have to excuse the plants and the dirt. I may be able to grow plants and veggies but when it comes to things like potting up and repotting, I still manage to make a mess.
After my trip to Japan last year, I decided to try to decorate my house’s front stoop with container plants. I think it looks better than an empty stoop but I can tell I didn’t do a very good job. This type of thing is not my forte, never have been.
Except for the plants in the back, which are rosemary and thyme, all of these are sedums and they were growing in a holes of cinder blocks before I dug them out and put them into pots. I’m once again expanding the garden, a very simple expansion this time, one which I hope will be of some benefit.
I dug up all the sedums from the cinder blocks because I needed the cinder blocks. There are 12 cinder blocks in my front garden, which is perfect because I need these 12 blocks to construct a sort of raised platform to put a grow bag. I’m doing this not only to expand the garden but to make the front yard look less…rocky. In case you don’t know, my mom took out the grass and put in rocks 3 years ago.
The rocks have created a microclimate that is about 5-10 degrees-Fahrenheit warmer than the back garden, which can be both advantageous and disadvantageous at times.
I mentioned in a previous post that every year, there’s a day when all the trees and flowers suddenly blooms. Wednesday was that day. I went to work that morning and did not witness blooming trees but when I returned that afternoon, the trees in the neighborhood were blooming. It’s a great sight after a long day at work.
If we were having coffee, I would ask you to compare the two pictures. The first was taken in 2023 while the latter was taken yesterday, both of the same flower bed. The only thing different was that I dug up all the flower bulbs last June, divided them, and re-planted them in October. I feel like despite some of the flowers are not yet blooming, the front garden beds are looking a lot fuller than last year.
Finally, I would you show the rest of the front garden where so far, it’s been advantageous of having the rocks heat up the ground, including getting the strawberries to flower in April.
#weekendcoffeeshare is hosted by Natalie of Natalie the Explorer. I appreciate you stopping by. Until next we chat. 🙂
I like it. Just needs a quick sweep of the stairs. And you could change up the flowerpots to jazz them up a little.
Can you come make a raised flower bed for me? 😀

If you want a raised flower bed, you can just buy a packet of seed mix and sprinkle all over the bed, water it, and very soon, you’ll have your very own “flower bed.”

But I want a raised flower bed, not just a flat flower bed, one that makes it harder for animals to get into.

Same thing, get one of those tall raised beds, fill it with soil and sprinkle flower seeds all over it.

I hear you, although I want to grow vegetables.

You can interplant, find a ground cover flower mix so it won’t crowd the vegetables because it will be nice and low and then put the vegetables in between the flowers.
