Hello May 2024!

It seems like winter is trying to put up one last fight on the first day of May with the day time high being only in the low-50’s degrees Fahrenheit and night time low in the upper 30’s. Thankfully, I’m not too worried about my garden surviving the night since I haven’t put out any of the warm weather crops yet.

Since this will be my third time doing this, I know it’s not safe to put tomatoes and cucumbers in the ground until at least the middle of the month. For now, I’ll just wait for my leafy greens to be ready to harvest.

It’s strange to think how busy I was at this time last year, trying to put plants in the ground while frantically trying to complete work and get ready for the trip to the UK. Oh gosh, has it been a year already? Time is flying by.

This year, I’m not going anywhere. I’m dedicating the year in the garden. The garden has never been more exciting. The perennial herbs I planted last year have all double, some tripled in size in the last month. The plants I dug up and moved earlier this year have survived and blooming. Even the seemingly-half-dead asparagus have sprang back to life. I was saying the other night, “I’m loving my garden more and more by the day.”

Plus, I am going to have cherries, blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, and many others ready for the picking in the upcoming months. What more can one ask for?

At the start of April, I had no idea what the month held for me. I honestly thought it was going to be another one of those transition months in 2024. I never thought I would have the opportunity to go to the Tulip Festival, which was one of my goals of 2024. I’ve been wanting to go ever since I’ve learned of it, which was probably back in 2019.

I’m still editing the photos but boy, oh, boy, was it a spectecular sight – 750,000 bulbs over a 50-acre area. It gave me so much gardening inspirations even though my garden is currently full. It also gave me wonderful memories and photos to treasure.

Other than the Tulip Festival, the family and I also made our way up to the Utah State Capitol to see the annual cherry blossoms. On the day when the started blooming, it was cold, damp, and snowing. Not five steps from the car, my mom shouted at the others to return to the car. We went again the week after but most of the blooms have started to fade or have already faded.

We then went down to a park below. I spent the entire time tailing my mom and her sisters because I wanted to take my time to enjoy the scenery and take pictures instead of listening to my mom yammer on and on about politics and who knows what else. I have yet to process those photos in Lightroom.

Things to Look Forward to in May…

I honestly do not know what May will bring, hopefully some warmer, less turbulent weather, more harvest…

The only thing I know that’s coming up is that I have a work presentation at the end of the month. It’s the first time I’ve done a presentation since my university days. Hopefully I still got it.
