Sunday Poser #184 – Mother’s Day

Is celebrating Mother’s Day a tradition for your family or not?

My aunt (mom’s youngest sister) pushed me to do something special for my mom on Mother’s Day this year.

“Get her a bouquet of flowers,” she said as we were shopping on Saturday.

I shook my head, “She will start sneezing and blame it on the flowers.”

“Take her out for a meal.” She suggested.

“Like what? You do know she doesn’t like to dine out, right?”

The truth is my mom has a tendency to turn every good and positive thing into the worst thing imaginable. I think it’s the reason I’ve been feeling down. How can one live with a person that likes to suck the life out of people like a…vampire, no, a dementor.

I woke up on Sunday (Mother’s Day) as usual. Actually, I woke up early but somehow wound up asleep again until my aunt’s opened her bedroom door and stomped to the bathroom. My mom was already seated at the kitchen counter, watching YouTube as usual. I gave her a hug from behind and said “Happy Mother’s Day!” in Japanese, “母の日おめでとう!”

I had to do a quick Google Translate the night before to make sure I got it right.

“Hmm…” was her response and tried to shake me off the hug.

We didn’t end up doing anything for Mother’s Day. I spent the morning planting half of the tomatoes and the afternoon connecting drip irrigation to the asparagus bed.

With my mom, I don’t think we’ve ever properly celebrated any sort of holiday.
