Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #305 – Two Rectangle

Happy Sunday! This week’s Lens-Artists Photo Challenge is a doozy as Egidio from Through my Brazilian Eyes hosts with the theme of Two Rectangles.

To be honest, the first thing I thought of when I saw the theme was my front garden. It has a total of 3 rectangular flower beds. This was taken in the spring, so it’s no longer like this. Picture all the tulips gone and replace it with peony leaves and a sunflower in the top right corner. Though there’s only one flower bed present in this photo, I can see that there are other rectangles in the photo like the sidewalk and the road. It’s not my

The second photo I thought of when I think of the concept of “two rectangles” is this photo. Though there are not two perfect rectangles in this photo, I would say the photo is divided into two sections. Do you see it?

I feel this might be another example of the concept of two rectangles. I don’t typically compose my photos with my eyes. I usually compose my photos with my camera lens. I don’t consciously follow a specific composition method – rule of thirds, leading lines, etc. I refine the composition in the editing process when I crop my photos.

This photo was taken somewhere in Osaka during a cruise. I was glad I had taken my 18-400 mm lens, otherwise this composition would probably not be possible because I remember this lighthouse being quite faraway.

As Egidio mentioned in his post, there are plenty of rectangles in architecture. This is the Thousand Islands bridge in New York connecting the US to Canada and I can spot at 10 rectangles off the bat. Being from a landlock state, we don’t cross as many bridges as people do in places like New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. The bridges we drive across are usually over a road, not water.

We were driving back to the US from Ottawa and were glad there wasn’t much morning traffic on that rainy morning. I was glad to had captured this bridge in a photo.
