#WeekendCoffeeShare – The Feeling of Passing

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I tried a new drink at Starbucks (new to me) this week – Espresso Frappuccino – and I customized it with extra shots. It was quite different, with the ice blended into the coffee as opposed to the cubes of ice that usually sat on top and it was only the pricier side with the shots added – almost $10 – which is about double of my usual go-to but I needed it considering how little sleep I’ve gotten and what the day entailed.

We are currently in the midst of a heat wave along with other parts of the country. The worst part of the heat wave is the hot temperatures aren’t until the evening hours – around 4 or 5 PM – this means it won’t cool down a whole lot overnight.

I had to go to the office for 3 additional days this week because I’m taking a course for the medical dispatcher certification. Each afternoon, by the time I got on the interstate, the temperature in my car would register 110-degrees-Fahrenheit (43-degrees-Celsius). That’s hot for these parts. I think the maximum is around 106 or 107.

Even the roads couldn’t take the heat and I ended up sitting in traffic as the construction crew shut down the lanes to perform the repair on the buckled asphalt road. It was agonizing because it was so hot and to be sitting in traffic like this after a long day, I was super cranky.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I passed the course! To be honest, I was worried because my co-workers who recently took the class told me that it felt like a lot of information being thrown at you. I didn’t feel that way at all. We were all handed a small booklet containing all the dispatch codes. After the instructor taught us how to use it, I no longer felt the burden to jot down so much notes.

The instructor advised us to study for the exam during the lunch hour but I instead went back to my cubicle and took a nap. I just couldn’t take it.

The day before the class began, my aunt left the house without turning on the AC. Even with the windows opened and my personal AC cranked up, my room was probably still 90-degrees at nearly midnight. I barely slept that night and had been trying to make up during the nights after but haven’t been able to. Of course, she doesn’t feel the heat as I do just as I don’t have the energy level as she does.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I have been pondering on why I took this class even though I have no desire to become an emergency medical dispatcher. In fact, I’m not officially certified yet. I still need to take the CPR course to become officially certified.

Anyway, I guess I want to prove it to myself as I have with every opportunity that I’m not as dumb as my family often say I am. I guess I just want to prove it to myself that when they call me “stupid” or other names, that those are just what they are – insults – and that I’m not this person.

      1. You’re welcome. I don’t think you need to prove it to anyone. Your family seems to be the sort who would not acknowledge it openly but would take benefit from your knowledge when they need it. Be assured of your own worth my friend

    1. Thank you. I happen to live with a bunch of pessimistic cynics who never have anything nice to say. Sometimes, I do wonder those things, whether what they say is right like whether I’m just telling myself I’m an intelligent human being when in fact, I’ve just been imagining the entire thing. Sometimes I even wonder whether I’m crazy until I prove I’m not.

  4. First off, well done for passing your course! Another sting and qualification to your bow. I think I would melt in 110-degrees-Fahrenheit (43-degrees-Celsius). I know when we were in France last Aug temps registered in the high 30’s and that was enough. We hid indoors all day.

      I had to neglect the garden for the entire week just because I couldn’t go outside in this heat, even after dark. Thankfully, most survived under shade cloth while some of the plants not under shade cloth got fried in the sun.

    Seriously. . . ! ?

    I suspect someone is trying to control you into doing whatever they want done.

    No one is is dumb could write like you do and know the things you clearly do, or do people’s taxes as you do or use a sophisticated camera as well as you do.

    You, my friend are far from dumb. . .

    1. Thank you, Gary, for saying that. It means a lot and I do think you’re right. It’s one of those things that a certain someone is trying to assert control over me. I know it’s silly but sometimes, I just need the affirmation that I’m not dumb or I’m not going crazy.

  6. In South African money your coffee would cost R178.50. Shoes! Glad you enjoyed it.
    That course is going to save lives one day. I’m so proud of you! I did see you were having 100 degrees heat on the news.
