#WeekendCoffeeShare – Flowers Blooming in the Garden

Good morning! Welcome to #weekendcoffeeshare, hosted by Natalie of Natalie the Explorer, please still feel free to come on in and have a drink and a chat.

Can you believe another month has come to an end?

This week was another month-end wrap-up at work, meaning I was extra busy, especially with the new tasks assigned to me, now that I’ve finally begun to transition over from accounts receivables to payables, meaning I am switching from managing the money received to paying money out.

I had my job interview for the senior accountant position this week. It was scheduled for 30 minutes but it only lasted about 10 minutes since I’m an internal employee so the recruiter could skip the introduction and dive right in. I had no questions for him other than the one raised by my mom, which I was dreading to ask, “Is it hourly or salary?”

It was salary, meaning no overtime pay and I get paid the same amount no matter how much I work. I’m still processing on the idea of getting paid a fixed salary every 2 weeks as opposed to a hourly wage, although the extra money is nice.

HR told me the next step would be an assessment, to test my skills. I received the assessment yesterday and felt like my chance at this job just went down drain. It was an assessment of accounting knowledge, which I haven’t properly used in over 6 years. Thankfully, I still have some of the textbooks from my college days to refresh my memories. After several hours, I got the assessment done. Hopefully, the answers are collect.

I have a feeling next week will be even more hectic with new training starting for not only me but for the new guy as well, meaning I might be in meetings all day because, well, who would train the new guy but me?

Since I’m in training, I haven’t been able to spend a lot of time in the garden but I try to get as much done as I can when I can.

This week, I finally pulled out all the old potato plants – the ones that’s been here since the spring. I dug out the larger potatoes while re-buried the little ones. I already have a few new potato plants popping up, hopefully, I will have fresh potatoes come fall. I also sowed some peas for fall harvests. I’ve never been successful at fall gardening, cool-weather plants often die because of the heat. I will have to be very pro-active in watering.

I finally got some pictures of my blooms last night. The white Bachelor’s Button was a surprise. It was hiding from me. This was a new flower seed I purchased last year because I thought it looked frilly and different from other Bachelor’s Button flowers.

The Zinnias are at last blooming! It’s been a difficult year for growing flowers. It took at least 3 tries to have blooming zinnias. The prior tries were eaten by earwigs.

I’m glad that despite losing 2 of my tallest sunflowers, I still have 2 sunflowers dominanting the front garden. Both different varieties, I might add, Autumn Beauty and Evening sun. I hate to choose favorites but I like the Evening Sun better. I guess I’m just a fan of the darker colors.

I appreciate you stopping by. Until next we chat. 🙂

    1. I find the normal yellow mammoth sunflower boring. I, too, like the darker color sunflowers. Because of the wind, I am going to try a dwarf sunflower next year. Hopefully, that will stop the wind from ripping the sunflowers from its stem.

  1. Sunflowers are my absolute favourite in the world of flowers (and I didn’t plant any in my garden this year…I did help plant sunflowers in the school garden and somehow thought I plan the din my own as well.)

Best of luck with the job training and the assessment for the new job. I like being on a salary very much, knowing exactly what you get.

      1. I don’t need to. This year’s flowers were from last year’s seeds. I started plucking the ones that germinated at the end of January until I found the ones that grew in the right spot.
