#WeekendCoffeeShare – A Long Week and a Short Week

Good morning! Welcome to #weekendcoffeeshare, hosted by Natalie of Natalie the Explorer, please still feel free to come on in and have a drink and a chat.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you this week has been both a very long week and a very short week. It was a 4-day work week for me since I requested to take Thursday off when I found out I would have 2 appointments on the same day. I had about a 90-minute break between the appointment and I spent it filling up my car and returning the mouse traps I got from Amazon before heading home to water the garden.

I no longer needed the mouse traps after calling pest control and paying over $200 to have them set up their mouse traps to rid me of this pesky little mouse. Who would’ve thought this pesky little mouse would cause so much trouble. I figured sometimes, I just need to have the professionals come and do their thing.

The doctor appointment was disappointing. The dermatologist basically charged me a $25 co-payment to tell me to direct my problems to my rhumatologist, who apparently, after 8 years of seeing me, is still trying to figure out what type of connective tissue autoimmune disease I have. Meanwhile, the dermatologist changed my yearly visit to a biannual visit to check for moles and prescribed me anti-histamine for my photosensitive skin.

Why does it feel like every doctor is giving up on me? Or is my illness psychological? Am I imagining the sun is burning me alive every time I step into the sun? Am I imagining my white blood cell count has recently dipped again?

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I am not the company’s newest senior accountant. I found out on Monday I did not get the new job and that I will be staying at my current job. Just as I thought. I’m still trying to figure out whether to be sad or relieved.

Today is National Waffle Day, by the way, and it was celebrated at work on Wednesday. I had a waffle with whipped cream and fruit. It was de-licious.

The weather has been absolutely turbulent this week. Violent scattered thunderstorms bubbled up everyday. Dark clouds would suddenly arrive, followed by wind, before the sky would open up and dumps what felt like buckets of rain and hail in a matter of minutes. These storms never lasted long – 30 minutes tops – but it’s been very damaging to the garden because the wind would dry everything out first, stressing out the plants and the amount of water the storms delivered was not even close to un-stress the plants.

So the garden is looking quite ragged these days.

Finally, if we were having coffee, I would tell you I am very distracted and jumpy these days. I think I have PTSD from seeing the mouse in the garden. Every little sound makes me jump.

My friend (yes, that friend) texted me on Wednesday while I was training the new guy on emails. I’ve been so distracted that I totally forgot to return her text. She texted me again on Friday while I was doing garden chores, asking whether I’m mad at her. I know she’s trying to care but I’ve been busy – juggling between meetings at work and getting my work done while trying to relax after work. It’s a struggle, sometimes, if you come to think of it.

I appreciate you stopping by. Until next we chat. 🙂

    1. I wouldn’t mind the mice either if it wasn’t destroying my garden. My growing season is quite short so the time to grow my vegetables matters and I can’t afford to lose anything and have to start plants again.

  1. I must have missed the post where you saw a mouse in the garden..(maybe I shouldn’t tell you about the snake sneaking by passed me last week.)

I know you will excel at your current job. That other job probably wasn’t;t for you. What is meant to be is meant to be. Maybe that job is very stressful? I hope you choose to be relieved. I hope your garden is OK after the crazy weather. my bell pepper still have huge holes in the leaves after a hail storm back in June, the plants seem to be doing ok anyways. It does look a little odd though..

    1. Eek! I guess it was wrong of me to wish for more wildlife to come to the garden last year. By wildlife, I should’ve wished for more pollinators, not things like mice and certainly not snakes.
Yeah, you’re probably right, “what’s meant to be is meant to be”.
My harvest has been meager this year compared to the last but enough to get by. I haven’t had a single bell pepper this year 😢 and only had a few sweet banana peppers, not enough for a jar of pickled pepper. I’m still holding out for peppers though.
I can tell you your garden is looking a lot better than mine. 😊

  2. Medicine has become an industry and patients are gaslighted and sent on to other doctors. Your experience is unfortunately common. It is frustrating to be encouraged to interview when they may have already had someone else in mind. Something else that is all too common. I hope this week is a better one. At least you had National Waffle Day!
