Sunday Poser #197 – Blogging Troubles?

WP troubles and how do you deal with them?

How do you manage your problems when they crop up while blogging? And what is your experience of asking WordPress for help?

To be honest, I have blogged for more than 10 years without encountering much trouble with WordPress except for the several weeks which I couldn’t access my blog admin page on my laptops.

I can’t remember when that was, probably end of last year or early this year? I contacted the happiness engineers, who was no help whatsoever. They blamed my internet browser when it turned out to be their computer server. When the message of their server being down, I so wanted to point at the computer and shout, “Ha, I told you it had nothing to do with my internet browser.”

That little blip made me to have to type my posts on my phone. To some of you, it may not be a big deal as you do that any way. To that, I would say I am envious and impress that you can do that.

I hate (with capital letters) to type on my phone. If I can speak the same way I type, I would pick to do speech-to-text any day over tapping away letter by letter. Unfortunately, my thoughts tend to flow a lot smoother when my fingers are click-clacking away on a physical keyboard.

Many people would say I can adapt to anything easily. To that, I would say, almost anything. I can never type on my phone’s virtual keyboard. Thankfully, I have a bluetooth keyboard that allowed me type my posts when WP had glitched out on my laptop. Still, it was a pain to had to squint at the small screen of my phone. I guess I’m still adapting to using my phone more than reading blogs, books, listening to music/podcasts, and playing games.

  1. I was just listening to a podcast where some digerati said didn’t even have a computer anymore because she just uses her phone. I thought to myself that she must not be a visual person. I’ve used my phone for tests and blog posts and the result is nowhere near as good a computer produced post. I’ve had only one good experience with a happiness dude and that’s because we working to solve a problem together. The rest of my experiences are as you describe only being topped by the fine folks at Apple.

    1. I do prefer the larger screen of a laptop to the tiny screen of the phone. I am a visual person. It’s weird when I blog from my phone because the photo will always take up the entire screen no matter whether I formatted it to be left, center, or right alignment. I have been blogging on a laptop for over 10 years and I’m not going to switch to the phone. I have of people no longer owning a laptop and will do everything on a phone but for me, I probably will never get there.

  2. If I had to type every word on my phone, I’d choose to blog on my laptop too. But I use the swipe feature of writing where you move your thumb on the letters to make the word. Thanks for sharing your thoughts Yinglan 🩷
