Two weeks later, just as Teri was getting ready to pick up the box with what little stuff she had brought to the office and leave the building for good, Shelley walked over and asked, “You ready?”
Teri shrugged, “I guess,” looking around at her cubicle, at the job she had managed to hold down for a solid six months until her cursed optimism convinced her to re-think her life.
“Listen,” Shelley said, “I know you’re getting ready to go but Greg, he, uh, wants to see you and he’s sent me to fetch you.”
“Okay,” Teri replied with an air of suspicion and followed Shelley until she saw the banner, “Teri, we’ll miss you,” and knew her roommate had lured her into a trap. “Shelley!” Teri shrieked, but Shelley just shrugged her shoulders.
“Teri,” Greg, Teri’s supervisor, strolled up in the fashion of a pregnant lady, “don’t blame Shelley, this is how we treat our employees, send them off with one last hurrah before we never see them again.”
