The sudden silence had caught me off guard. I stopped chopping the onion and put down the knife. The pitter-patter of rain on my roof had stopped. Has it finally stopped? I wondered as I wiped my hands on my apron and opened the front door.
Outside, the doors to my neighbors’ houses opened and one by one, they stepped out onto the street. It’s been raining for 30 days. 30 days!
“Look Mommy,” my neighbor from across the street, Jimmy, pulled on his mother’s shirt, pointing at the sky. All at once, we all looked up. “A rainbow, wow.”

The original flood was for 40 so this wasn’t so bad. 😉

Aw, I’ve had a few periods like that and the end is a funny sort of welcome and discomforting all at once! Although if there’s a rainbow, there’s more rain somewhere.

30 days of rain – that rainbow sure must be a welcome sight. I really love the first paragraph with the alliterations, fricatives and sibilants!

Thank you. Yeah, 30 days of rain, that’s 10 days from becoming biblical 😀
