Six Sentence Story: Web

Adjusting her blond wig in the restaurant’s restroom, she inhaled and exhaled several breaths, “you can do this,” she told herself, “your name is Shannon, and,” she paused, “or is it Sharon?” Quickly, she swiped and unlocked her phone, scrolling through the texts she exchanged with him, “Wait the minute, I used two names?” She squeezed her eyes shut, why did I do that, she thought, Shannon and Sharon, she wondered if he noticed, if he did, he didn’t say anything.

She was officially caught in her little web of lies, all because she wanted to try dating and didn’t want to be stalked in case the relationships ended badly. Should I abort, she wondered, checking her phone again, he’s not here yet. The decision was made in the next second as she pulled off the wig to allow her ginger hair flow, then she put on a pair of glasses, stuffed the wig back in her purse, and strutted out the restroom and out of the restaurant.

  1. …or he thought the wig was pretty funky as he noted the strand of ginger hair. I used to date with a wig long and brown. My hair was a blonde bob. I called her Desiree. Friends used to ask me who I would be coming as. Wigs are a hoot. Great story. Great memories. Thanks.
