“Yo rookie,” the desk sergeant called with a smug grin, “package for you,” he said, half-tossing a neatly wrapped brown paper parcel on the rookie’s desk.
The rookie stopped mid-task and opened the package, I never get packages here, he thought, what can it be?
Beneath the brown paper was a white cardboard box, on top of the box, it read, “Rule #1 to being a cop, always check the address on the package,” the rookie was confused, is this some kind of sick joke, he wondered. Suddenly, he no longer wanted to proceed opening the parcel, he wanted to push the box as far away from him as possible but at the same time, he was curious.
Carefully, he lifted the lid of the box and that’s when he heard it – the ticking, “tick tick tick,” – he wanted to shout, “get down,” but he was too late.
Ka Boom, came a loud pop, triggering the collapse of the building.
