Caitlin wanted to disappear the moment her sister started dancing, “Don’t you dare dance at the party,” she had threatened hours before.
She did the gesture of a cross on her heart, “Cross my heart, I won’t dance,” as Caitlin narrowed her eyes as if trying to figure out whether her sister meant it.
“Now, blend in,” Caitlin said as they entered the building, while deep down, she really hoped her sister would do as she’s told, don’t embarrass me, Deb, Caitlin thought as her hand balled into a fist, or else.
Things turned the corner when Caitlin went to get drinks, “I’ll get us some drinks, remember, no dancing,” she warned, but when she returned to the spot she had last seen her sister, her sister was nowhere to be found, “Deb?”
Anxious, Caitlin scanned the crowd while muttering, “When I said blend in, I didn’t mean it literally, come on, Deb, where are you?”
Suddenly, a burst of laughter erupted in the corner on the opposite side of the room, “Oh no, you didn’t,” Caitlin gritted her teeth as she crossed the room and there she was, moving like she’s got the ticks, Caitlin balled her fists, that’s not what I meant by “blend in.”
Written for Six Sentence Story. The prompt is “Blend”.

I like the thought of Deb blending in, as she was told to do, to the point of being lost in the crowd.
