Hump Day Thoughts

Here are a couple of thoughts for this Hump Day:

Thought #1

How should one react when he/she learns another one of her co-workers is leaving?

Yes, I learned another one of my co-workers is leaving the company. That’s two within a 2-week span, what in the world?! Now, with the person doing the budgets and forecast for the company elevated to the Director position, we are now officially down two executives in the company.

How does one react to that, especially when the new Director asks, “Is there any questions?” Any questions about what? People leave for a reason, I’m sure. I just never seen the turnover so high. The Director of Finance and the Controller of Finance leaving within 2 weeks of each other? I have no words yet so many thoughts scrambled in my head.

I guess we’ll see.

Thought #2

I’m currently watching a Japanese Rom-com on Netflix. It’s 10-episodes and I’m watching 2-3 episodes per night. I think it’s more comedy than romance about this business woman quitting her career to raise her step-daughter.

The main character – the business woman – is quite oblivious when it comes to love and feelings. Basically, she is like a robot – no emotions whatsoever.

There are a lot of funny parts in this show and it made me laugh just about non-stop, even when I’m watching the show while walking on the treadmill. “It’s nice to see you happy,” my mom said last night as I was walking on the treadmill.

Inside, I thought, laughing at a comedy does not mean a person is totally happy. Laughing at a comedy is different from laughing for joy in life, although some would say laughing at a TV show is a form of therapy, but anyone can laugh at a movie or a TV show, right?

  1. Often many people changed jobs around the first of the year. They apply in January and are hired around now.

Stop splitting hairs. Nobody is totally happy all the time. Laughing. at some kind comedy is just alittle joy. Be grateful.

  2. I think anytime you laugh – it can be so good for the soul and as a boost for the boost to immune system! However, I am not sure if laughing at someone to belittle them has the same effect…. but I think the “comic relief” from a comedy show can release good hormones that help fuel joy in other areas…..

    1. I’ve heard laughter, especially belly laughs, can help with digestion and a good tummy workout. 🙂 But I’m not sure whether one can really say laughing at TV can cure one’s depression though.

      1. well bringing in the word “cure” is really taking the topic to a totally different level (and sorry if I missed that in the post….
I just believe that laughing is therapeutic and your post reminded me of Norman Cousins and much of his sharing a long time ago.
Not sure if you heard of him, but here is a quick summary:
“Norman Cousins was a prominent figure in promoting the benefits of laughter therapy. According to his findings, laughter can have a positive impact on the body and mind, particularly in reducing pain. Cousins’ work suggests that laughter therapy can be an effective way to manage pain, as it releases endorphins, also known as “feel-good” hormones, which can help alleviate discomfort and reduce the need for aspirin or other pain-relieving medications.”

      2. I was told the same thing back when I was all into watching videos about health. My mom is someone who doesn’t believe in mental wellness. She looks at someone with depression as something that person’s brought onto him/herself and that mental illnesses are just something an individual conceived from imagination. Therefore, she thinks that if one is capable of laughter, then he/she no longer has depression or anxiety disorder.

      3. it can tough to find root causes because everyone is so different and there are so many variables (and so many cognitive filters we have as we try to make sense of things) and it takes detective work….( and it can be hard to grasp biological, spiritual, psychological, social )factors…)

  3. Finding something funny to laugh at is a great joy. Laughing is great for one’s health. The body doesn’t have an opinion on why you laugh, it is only grateful that you do. The Big Bang theory is my show for laughing!
    Enjoy it anyway!
I think I would also feel a bit uncomfortable about two financial people leaving the company. It may be nothing more than better opportunities, but it is a little disconcerting.

    1. Well said.
Yes, it is a little disconcerting to have top people in the department to just get up and leave at nearly the same time but maybe it will give someone an opportunity to join the company or move up.
