WeekendCoffeeShare – hair-pulling-wanting-to-punch-someone kind of week

Happy Saturday! Welcome to another WeekendCoffeeShare! Come on in and let’s get you something hot or cold (your choice). As always, thank you to Natalie of Natalie the Explorer for hosting our weekly Saturday shindig.

It’s been one of those weeks. Yes, one of those hair-pulling-wanting-to-punch-someone kind of week.

This week was another month-end close at work and it was especially hectic. Was the month-end close this hectic last January? I was most likely doing more then than I am now since my former job duties have seen been shifted to the new guy that was hired last April.

If you don’t know, I work in finance and month-end close is where we wrap up and reconcile all the transactions from the previous month. I usually aim to have my stuff done by the end of the first week of each month. Maybe I’m an overachiever or something.

I feel one of the many reasons work’s been hectic is because of the volume of emails I’m handling on a daily basis. Even after almost a year of doing the same thing everyday, the new guy still hadn’t achieved the accuracy my manager and I wanted him to achieve, hence the increased volume of emails. The emails are customers writing in to say their bill is wrong. When I was billing, I was getting those once in a blue moon, now, it’s about 3 or 4 per day.

Anyway, I completed my tasks and wrapped up January, so now, I can move on to February.

It’s my mom’s birthday this weekend. Her siblings are asking her whether she wants to go out to have a meal. If you’re a long-time reader of this blog, you’d know her answer. That’s right. She said no to all the invites.

I want to go to see the bald eagles. It’s February and it’s Bald Eagle Sighting Month here in Utah. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like anywhere is hoping viewing events this year, unlike last year. According to my experience, the first weekend of February is usually the peak time to see bald eagles. It’s said that after this weekend, they will start to migrate to other parts of the country before heading back north to their home.

I don’t know yet whether I will go or not. I don’t really want to be disappointed by the lack of bald eagles sighting. The weather is also not great. It’s been forecast to be frigid and I don’t like to be in frigid weather (does anyone?).

Meanwhile, my aunt is planning yet another trip to Japan in March, coinciding with my mom and my trip to Taiwan. It’s once again up to me to help her apply for the travel visa. I tried to decline but she just spread herself on my bedroom floor and wouldn’t leave until I finished the application. So annoying!

My mom is saying if she and my aunt next door head to Japan in April, I will have to do it again, and this time, for two of them. 🙄😕

I am currently unsure of what to look forward to, I guess ahead to…spring. Until next we chat…

  1. I remember the yearend reports and strict deadlines to be met when I worked for the bank. I thrived on it, never missed one, and was able to prepare a lot of my work in readiness beforehand the previous month.
The monthend for the book company took 2 people over a week to complete, holding up processing of payments because the accounts weren’t closed and statements not run off. Following promotion after both left the company, I did it on my own in ‘a day’…….. the afternoon of day 1 and the morning of day 2. I did a bank rec two or three times a week instead of once a month and then panicking to find the errors as they had. I have to admit, working on my own and to my own schedule worked well in my favour.

    1. I’m the same way as you were. I have quite a few tasks that needs to be done at month-end and I tend to do them as they come in during the month so I won’t have to pile on at month-end.
It drives me crazy when there are someone holding up the process but I’ve been learning to care-less about this type of thing.

  2. Sounds like quite a frustrating week, but you made it through! Are there any Bald eagle web cams you could watch from the warmth of your own home, maybe with a warm beverage in hand? Hope you’re weekend offers some respite!
