Happy Sunday! John from Journey with Johnbo is the host for this week’s Lens-Artists Photo Challenge and we are playing a game of Pick a Word. I’m choosing my own word and that word is Water.

Water, particularly the flow of water is fascinating to me in a photographic sense. Photographing moving water sometimes makes my hobby of landscape photography so much more interesting and exciting because it gives me a challenge like capturing a drop of water in mid-air or make a waterfall appear silky.
These photos were captured on my last trip to Japan. I hope to capture some new photos when I visit Kyushu in 2 weeks.

Finally, I love exploring and playing around with shutter speed, typically when I’m photographing water because I can immediately see the difference in the photo.
I used to always opted for the longer exposed photos because I love the silky appearance of the water but these days, I’m often opting for faster shutter speed because then, I can capture the splashes of water in mid-air. I guess it all comes down to personal preference.

I, too, like the smooth water effect of a slower shutter speed, but often, I don’t have a tripod and can’t hold the camera still enough to pull off a slower exposure without camera movement.
Nice work, and a great word choice for the challenge.

Yes, it’s very hard to hold the camera still during those long-exposure shots. Most of them were hand-held. I guess in some ways, they were some of the lucky shots. 🙂

I love your gallery and I’m very much like you, sometimes a faster shutter speed works wonders catching all the splash 🙂
