WeekendCoffeeShare – March 2025 Garden

Happy Saturday! Come on in from the cold and let’s chat! A big thanks to Natalie of Natalie the Explorer for hosting WeekendCoffeeShare.

First, I want to show you the garden.

The 2 photos were taken exactly one month apart. The picture with the blooming daffodils is obviously the March photo. What a transformation, right?

It’s the spring equinox. It woke all the plants up from its winter slumber. Of course, some are taking longer than other like my Chicago Fig tree and Fignomenal Fig tree. Even my overwintered sweet banana pepper was showing green growth last night. I’m glad because my sweet banana seedlings either sadly passed away or it’s struggling in a bad way. I have a large bell pepper seedling that might be going in the same grow bag as the 1-year-old sweet banana plant.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you I have spent the week cleaning up the garden and transplanting cool-weather vegetables. It seems like Mother Nature has decided to play tricks this spring. It’s been around 70 degrees-Fahrenheit most of this week but things are going to change starting today. The weather forecast said that it’s supposed to be rain and snow the next week and temperature are “plummeting” to around 50-degree-Fahrenheit.

I will have to put a frost blanket over everything to keep warm since I’ve already folded and stored the greenhouse plastic away for the year. Plastic wouldn’t help much in this case anyway, it would just burn the plants.

If we were having coffee, I would tell you the garden has an aphid problem. It’s not an unusual problem. It’s more of an annoyance and the only thing affected seemed to be the spinach patch. At first, I thought it was an airflow issue but even the spinach planted aside from the other spinach plants is affected. So it’s a spinach problem.

I think I might just remove them since a few had bolted in the 70-degree-weather. It seems like spinach is happy when we’re freezing our butts off. What a bunch of rebels.

I hope you enjoyed this quick update to the garden. See you again next week!

    1. I am happy to see those daffodils, and surprised that there were so many this year.
Well, I wouldn’t say “fun” is the right descriptor for some of the tasks I’ve been doing.

    1. Haha, you should see the back. It’s a mess waiting to be cleaned up. 😀 I’m trying to keep the garden clean and organized this year to prevent another mouse from crawling in and stealing my goodies like it did last year.
Yes, spring is a wonderful time for us gardeners. 🙂
