Continuing from last week‘s Unicorn Challenge story…
A year later…
Sue is sitting at her desk, staring at the small block of wood in front of her. For the life of her, she can’t seem to come up with anything to carve this block of wood into.
One month prior, Sue was on a hike when she slipped, sliding down the side of the mountain until her back pack got snagged by a tree branch. She was mostly fine but her left tibia was shattered. “You’re not in your 30’s anymore, Sue,” her doctor reminded her, “You must stop having these adventures. Your body can’t heal as fast as it used to. Why don’t you take up a stationary hobby? You won’t be running around anytime soon.”
“Like what?”
“Give wood carving a try,” the doctor suggested, “My wife made the same suggestion 2 years ago and now, she can’t get me out of the house.” He opened to the gallery on his phone and showed her a picture of what looked like a wooden carving of a horse with a large belly. A pregnant horse? Sue stared at the picture, speechless. “Pretty cool, right?”
Now, glancing between the cast on her leg and the block of wood, she wonders if this is what it comes to – to be a hermit for the rest of her life. Is my age really catching up to me?

I will not be a hermit. I will not be a hermit. I will not . . . 😁

No, definitely not! She will learn to carve wood, become famous for her carvings, earn a fortune and go travelling in style!
Good story, Yinglan
