#WeekendCoffeeShare – Karmic Payback

Happy Saturday! A big thanks to Natalie of Natalie the Explorer for hosting WeekendCoffeeShare each weekend.

A lot has happened in the span of one week. In some ways, it felt like karmic payback, maybe a punishment for my greed for crossing the state border to Wyoming to play the Powerball. Honestly, playing Powerball is just my way of some adult fun. There’s no need to punish me for having a bit of fun.

So what happened?

Well, for one, my greedy brain left an entire tray of 72 seedlings sitting out in the sun under a humidity dome, which caused them to turn to crispy ash. For another, the hose in the front garden burst that very evening. I went into the house that night stating a fact, “The water hose just burst,” no emotion, nothing. My mom reacted and called me a drama queen, “Don’t scare me like that!” She shrieked.

I also lost a squash plant in the front garden and something or someone messed with the mulch in one of the grow bags and uprooted almost all the newly germinated carrot seedlings. I doubt it was the wind because the shade cloth is tightly secured to the grow bag with clips. The culprit would had needed hands to remove the shade clothes.

As I said, Karmic Payback.

Anyway, I had to re-sow the plants I lost. Thankfully, because of the long days, the seeds are still germinating relatively fast. Unfortunately, because I mixed old soil in there, there were mystery vegetables germinating in the same cell. The only seed I can tell is the spinach as spinach have very distinctive cotyledon leaves. All I know about the others are that they are from the brassica family. Whatever it is, I know it’s edible.

I started walking in the park again. It felt good to not be occupied by garden chores. It also felt good to be away from home and from my mom. I needed the space and time away as I increasingly finding myself feeling tongue-tied around my mom and aunt, not because I don’t know what to say but because my teeth are clenched so tight with anger that I don’t know what to say.

The sight of them just makes my blood boil. I need to be get away and I know what you’re going to say, “you need to find a new place,” and I will say, “I’m working on it.”

Anyway, it felt good to be by myself with my noise-canceling headphones and my music. I felt like I could finish think again, not to mention notice my surrounding. It amazes me how green the park is this year despite we haven’t had measurable rain in over 2 months.

I was so jealous when I saw these grape vines in one of the house’s yard and how I wish I have the space to grow grapes. Unfortunately I’ve dedicated the available spaces to growing blackberries in my garden.

I appreciate you sticking around this week. I hope you have a great week ahead.

  1. Regarding the garden plants wilting in the sun. Sometimes, just sometimes, I feel things happen as they were intended…perhaps your new germinating seedling…and mystery ones too may bring great surprises unplanned but good ones. Cheers.
