Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #362 – Sports, Sporting Events, and Fun

Happy Sunday! “Ah, sports! The wonderful world of sports and fun.” I say that with sarcasm as I’ve never a part of such world because of my clumsiness and unwillingness to endure pain.

Thanks, Beth from Wandering Dawgs, for hosting this week’s Lens-Artist Challenge with the topic of Sports and fun, I hope my photos and stories will be as quirky and delightful as my sarcasm.

Baseball

September 2021

“Have you been to a baseball game before?” A co-worker asked.

“Yes, I have,” I answered, “many many many years ago.” 2005 was the last baseball game I saw at a baseball stadium before my co-workers invited me to a baseball game in 2021.

The 2021 stadium was nowhere near as big as the one I went to in 2005. After all, the game I saw in 2005 was the LA Dodgers and this (the 2021 game) was the Salt Lake Bees. Of the two, I enjoyed the Bees game more, mainly, because I was in a smaller stadium and I was almost front row.

This ball park no longer exist, by the way. It was torn down in 2023 or 2024 for low-income housing and the ball park was re-built some 20 miles away in a much bigger lot.

Such a shame, I quite enjoyed being able to see the game without needing binoculars.

Soccer

August 2025

There’s always soccer games in progress at the neighborhood park at this time of the year. This was a few weeks ago when I was on my walk and saw 3 games being played on the same field. My walk around the park is just about the only alone time I can get these days.

I tried to arrange my off-days from work on the days when my mom would head into the office, no go. She hadn’t went to the office on her usual day in the month of August. So if I can get a moment of peace by walking around the park, I’ll take it. I don’t even tell her I’m going for a walk. Nope, that’s to prevent her from tagging along. I turn on the drip irrigation and let it run its usual duration of 50 minutes while I exit through the back gate.

Anyway, as I walked my laps around the park, listening to whatever was playing on my phone, I couldn’t help smiling when I watched these kids run around without a care and how I wished I was able to do that. Maybe one day…

Surfing

Time for a happier story!

June 2019

I was in Huntington Beach, California as part of the California leg of the road trip when my uncle (mom’s brother-in-law) came to the US from China for a visit. It was a month-long visit and I can’t say I enjoyed the company as this was my least-favorite uncle of all the uncles. He’s a person who makes everyone tip-toe around him. Throughout this leg of the road trip, I would always remain either a few steps ahead of or behind everybody so I could spend more time taking pictures.

Anyway, I was walking on the boardwalk when I saw these surfer dudes. Immediately, I was locked in the action. I began clicking away, hoping and praying the camera wouldn’t fail me. Thankfully, I got a couple of good shots out of it. When both of these guys made it to shore, that’s when I heard the bull horn, announcing the score. I was watching a surf competition. Ha, what were the chances?

  1. Yinglin, these are great images for the challenge! I’m with you about the small baseball stadiums being more fun than the major league stadiums. I really like your youth soccer photos. Those games are fun to watch too. Congratulations on the awesome surfing photos!
