Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #370- Ancient

Happy Sunday! Sophia from Photographias is hosting this week’s Lens-Artists Photo Challenge and we are pondering about ancient landscapes, architecture, and every day stuff.

Other than the oceans, mountains are probably some of the oldest living things on Earth. This is the Teton mountain range. Even though I’ve been to Grand Teton National Park just about as many times as Yellowstone, the first time I truly visited the park and not just drive-through was in 2021. I didn’t even know there were other roads that existed in the park. I’ve always thought there was just the road out of Yellowstone to Jackson Hole, Wyoming.

My mom drove on that trip and she turned off onto a road I’ve never been on and suddenly, I saw these impressive mountain ranges come into view. Even though I can see mountains by stepping out of my front door, these mountains are incomparable to the ones I can see every day. These are much more impressive and majestic.

How about some ancient architecture? This is Toshodaiji Temple in Nara, Japan, completed in 759 and it’s an Unesco World Heritage site. I visited just over two years ago and quite enjoyed it. I’m ashamed to say that I don’t know much about architecture. Other than this is an old temple, I have nothing else to tell you.

The thing I enjoyed on my visit was greenery. I enjoyed the presence of plants and trees as I strolled the grounds. Their very presence alone instantaneously calmed me down as I discovered traveling is harder than some people make it out to be.

Finally, how about this old TV? And it still works!

I made two visits to the world’s first nuclear power plant in Idaho in August. I honestly didn’t need the second visit but I had just gotten my US National Park passport and thought I’d drop by to get the book stamped. My aunts have never been to the museum so I waited while my mom showed them around.

At the entrance, there was a TV playing a short program about the history of the facility. I searched around but there wasn’t any description about this antique television. However, since the facility opened in the 1950’s, that’s when I’ll date this TV.

  1. The old tv is a great find, Yinglan, I love it, especially as it still works! I also love your Nara shot, great angle of the temple (I do know it’s one of the biggest wooden buildings in the world, but that’s about it…). And the mountains are indeed magnificent.
