Lens-Artists Photo Challenge #372- Ephemeral

Happy Sunday! Tina from Travels and Trifles is hosting this week’s Lens-Artists Photo Challenge and she has chosen the topic of Ephemeral – meaning short-lived.

Looking into my library of posts, this most likely will be my third time attempting this topic, the last 2 times were in 2015 and 2018 and it seems like I will always have photos for this topic.

I took this picture from my back patio a few weeks ago. It was quite early in the morning, just shortly after my day had begun. What was odd was that there wasn’t rain in the forecast nor did it rain the night before, so why is there a rainbow? There is a scientific explanation for this but I’m not sure that I want to know nor get into the nitty-gritty of it all.

A rainbow is a rainbow. It’s a magical thing, in my opinion, and must be enjoyed while it lasts.

This photo was last shared in a challenge in 2018. Having been a gardener for the last few years, my opinion on plants have changed greatly. I cannot recall what I used to think about plants but it is certainly not the way I think of them now. I thinks plants – no matter whether it’s a plant, a vegetable, or a flower – I think plants are some of the most resilient and delicate things on this earth. As seedlings, I learned it can handle being roughed up but a blooming flower can be dismantled by a simple breeze and is often one of the most ephemeral things out there.

Water droplets are also ephemeral, is it not? They are just hanging there, waiting for some kind of external force to come and knock them to the ground.

I love taking pictures of water droplets because of the challenge of getting up close to capture the shot of the droplet in focus without getting too close that I would knock the droplet from whatever object it was hanging onto. It’s a challenge but I would always welcome that challenge if it meant I would walk away with a picture and a story.

I’ll close with this picture of fog I shot in Yellowstone. Bad weather don’t last forever but it’s definitely a nice change from the monotony of every life. I love it when I can capture the bad weather on camera because it makes the picture a little different and meaningful.
