#WeekendCoffeeShare – Playing Catch-up

Happy Saturday!

This week, I have been playing a non-stop game of catch up.

Not much happened in the garden this week as it’s been cold, dark, and a scatter of a few measly drops of rain at the most inopportune moments. I couldn’t even bring the seedlings outside because without much sun, there’s not much point to bring them outside.

I did a risky thing last weekend, something which I told myself I wouldn’t do until March. I transplanted a couple of vegetables into the raised beds. Somehow, I felt like they will have adequate time to grow some roots and defend themselves against the cold. So far, they’re all right.

The spinach I direct sowed a few weeks back had germinated. I was very surprised when I pulled back the mulch to reveal the seedlings. Wow!

Anyway, back to catch-up, I spent the beginning of the week catching up on my blog reading. I haven’t read anything from the reader since the 1st of February, so there were quite a number of posts I missed. I try to read blogs on a daily basis but sometimes, one can only do so much in a day.

I have been trying to catch up at work, too. I don’t know how but I’ve fallen very behind on my tasks and the volumes in each of my tasks have doubled as of late, maybe that’s why I’ve fallen behind. I also feel this has something to do with the shortened work week. I discovered last weekend that I’ve reached the limit of my paid-time-off at work, meaning, this amount will no longer accumulate until I take time off, but if I take time off, how will I be up to date with everything?

So I ended up taking part of Tuesday and Friday off from work, which means this will be a 4-day weekend for me as Monday is a holiday. In my opinion, February is the worst time to take time off. It’s still winter. It’s cold and wet. There’s not many places to go, not much to do, what’s the point?

By Thursday, I still haven’t caught up with work. Every time I could finally focus, my mom wants something, as if she’s suddenly forgotten how to operate a computer. This week, while I was battling a week-long backache and tasks from work, my mom needed me take her photo so she could apply for a visa to China. The photo kept getting rejected with the reason that the “face was covered”. Covered with what? It refused to list and I had no time to dwell on the kind of error it could be, I’ve got to work.

On Friday, after studying the sample photos, I found out that it was her bangs that was covering her face. After taking a new picture with all the bangs swept to the side, leaving the forehead exposed, the photo was finally accepted. Still, I thought my mom was very selfish of not waiting until I was off from work to do this, because she later decided that she wouldn’t apply for the visa until next month. So much for wasting my time.

After getting the photo sorted, I was sick of being stuck in the house. I went out into the back garden and saw the mess that was the yarrow. It seriously needed some TLC. I pruned this once before winter but with all the warm weather lately, a lot of it had grown back before it was damaged by the frost.

After pulling out all the dead leaves, I discovered a lot of green beneath. I know Yarrow is known as “nature’s bandaid” but I have yet discovered a way to use this amazing herb and this is going to be its 4th season.

Anyway, I appreciate you stopping by. Have a wonderful week ahead.
